Keeping Our Eyes on the Prize: Warrigal Road’s Educational Values at Work
At Warrigal Road State School, we know exactly what we stand for. Our Educational Values are not just feel-good words on a poster; they are the driving force behind every lesson, every activity, and every decision we make. They are hierarchical, deliberate, and deeply embedded in our school culture. They guide us in our core business—academic excellence—while ensuring that every child is developing the skills they need to navigate life beyond the classroom.
The Foundation of Learning
At the very base of our values sits Wellbeing (1)—because let’s face it, if students aren’t feeling safe, supported, and ready to learn, then nothing else matters. But wellbeing at Warrigal isn’t just about warm and fuzzy moments; it’s about ensuring every child can engage, focus, and strive for success.
From there, we move into Foundation Skills (2)—the essential literacy and numeracy skills that underpin all learning. These aren’t just school skills; they are life skills. Without them, doors close. With them, the world opens. We make no apologies for prioritising them.
Beyond the Basics: Learning That Lasts
Once the foundations are solid, we build. Partnerships in Learning (3) are key. Education isn’t a solo journey—it’s a collaboration. Teachers, parents, students, and the wider community all play a role in shaping our learners. We work together because we know that meaningful learning happens when students see the bigger picture and connect their schoolwork to the world around them.
Then there’s Student Agency (4)—giving students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning. It’s not about handing over the reins entirely, but about fostering independence and responsibility. Whether it’s tackling a challenge in a structured lesson or problem-solving their way through an obstacle at Holt Bolt, we want our students to think, engage, and push themselves.
The Peak: Future-Ready Learners
Finally, at the top of our hierarchy is the Inquiry Curriculum (5)—the pinnacle of deep thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Our goal isn’t just to teach facts; it’s to teach students how to question, explore, and innovate. This is where we challenge them to think beyond worksheets and into the world, preparing them for jobs that don’t even exist yet.
What This Means for You
Parents, we ask you to reflect: how do these values play out at home? How do you reinforce resilience, responsibility, and curiosity? Education doesn’t stop when the school bell rings. The best learning happens when children see that what they do at school has real-world relevance. Whether it’s reading with them, encouraging problem-solving at home, or modeling lifelong learning, you play a critical role.
At Warrigal Road, we don’t just teach; we prepare. And we do it with purpose. Our values aren’t just words; they are actions. Let’s keep them front and centre, together.

-
Little Warrigals: A transition program for students who will attend Prep the following year, offering four 45-minute sessions over four consecutive weeks during school time. This program provides children with an opportunity to become familiar with school routines and expectations before starting school.
-
Prep Orientation Sessions: All children must attend a Prep Orientation session before starting Prep. These sessions are run at the beginning of Term 4 (October/November) and provide valuable information for both parents and children.
