CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVALS 2025
A couple of weeks ago, Warrigal Rd held its Cross Country Carnivals. We had a very exciting morning with the Senior Cross Country (students from year 4-6), partaking in their respective year level races. When they were not running, they were cheering on their houses. The day started with students running competitive races of around 1.6km, to see who could qualify for the district cross country trials in Term 2. The top 6 in each of the races for students turning 10, 11 or 12, qualify for the school team. After the competitive races, all other students ran in the “Fun Run”. It was great to see everyone having a go and trying their best to finish the race. On top of that, it was amazing to witness the terrific team spirit and sportsmanship on display.
In the middle session, the Preps and Year 1’s took to the track to run 1 lap of our 450m school short course. It was great to see the upcoming little Warrigal talent on display, and the effort of all the students to run the course right to the very finish. In the afternoon session, the Year 2 and 3 students came out to run their New Intermediate Cross Country Course. It was again encouraging to see how many students were able to run this distance of just under 1km. There were some future rep stars in the making, that’s for sure! The day finished with some fantastic war cries from all four houses, singing their house songs loud and proud!
The HPE department would like to express their gratitude to all the parents that came to support the children and teachers that contributed to the day’s success. Thank you to the Ground Staff for their assistance with setting up and packing away. Finally, a big thank you to our 2025 House Captains and our extra helpers! They had showcased great leadership and enthusiasm throughout the carnival, and despite having run their races in the morning session, still found the energy to support and guide the little Warrigals around the track in the later sessions. This group of students led from the front, provided support to their younger peers, showed initiative, teamwork and great dedication to their role. We look forward to working with them throughout the year with our upcoming sports days.
