MET WEST REPRESENTATIVE - FOOTBALL

A huge congratulations to our football superstar, Myla! They say the third time’s a charm, and it certainly is for her! After being selected for the District Football team for three consecutive years, Myla has been steadily working toward her ultimate goal: making the Met West team.

Thanks to her years of hard work and dedication, Myla has finally achieved it. She’s been selected for the 10-12 Years Met West Football Team! We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment and wish her all the best as she heads to the State Championships in July.

On the Wednesday of competition (Day 1), the P&C have organised a sausage sizzle and bake sale. You will need to pre-order your sausages, poppers and ice blocks on flexischools by Friday 6th June. There will be no late orders accepted on the day. You must PRE-ORDER through Flexischools.com.au . They are also looking for parent helpers. If you can lend a hand, please log your availability in the volunteer portal.

GALA RESULTS

Senior A Girls Soccer

After a long wait, the sunshine finally arrived and the fields dried up enough, for our Warrigal students to board the buses for their second and final Gala Day for the semester. The Senior A Girls Soccer team arrived with one goal in mind: to bring home the flag!

The day kicked off with a commanding 4–0 win over BCC, setting the tone for what was to come. But it was the next match against long-time rivals, Stretton, that would determine the overall champions. Both teams entered the game undefeated with four wins each, making this the ultimate decider.

The match was intense, with both sides showing strong defence and great connection across the field. But it was our very own Met West superstar, Myla, who broke the deadlock about 10 minutes in, slotting the ball into the back of the net to give us the lead.

The pressure didn’t let up. The girls had to stay focused and composed. Verona’s fearless performance in goals was a standout, showcasing her determination to keep a clean sheet. With just three minutes left on the clock, Darya’s relentless effort paid off, as she found the back of the net again - securing a 2nil victory.

The win crowned our team as Back-to-Back Sunnybank Cluster Champions!

Well done, girls! Your commitment, dedication, and sportsmanship were evident throughout the season. You truly are a dream team to coach. Congratulations on a well-deserved premiership!

McDonald's Awards went to Anna, Darya and Ammara

Junior A Girls Soccer

The Junior A Girls Soccer team showed incredible growth this season! They made remarkable progress in both their skill level and understanding of the game. Once players found the positions that best suited them and the team’s needs, they became a force to be reckoned with.

Gala Day 2 kicked off with a dominant 4-0 win over Calamvale. Next, they faced the undefeated Yeronga team, who were highly disciplined and well-drilled. Although the girls didn’t come away with a win, they played with heart and demonstrated the most improvement between the two teams across their matchups.

Determined to finish strong, they bounced back with a confident 3-0 victory over Stretton, who they drew with, earlier in the season. They then capped off the day with a 1-0 win against ICB.

This strong finish secured the Junior A Girls the title of Runners-Up in their competition. A huge congratulations to all the players! I’m so proud of your progress and can’t wait to continue the soccer journey with you next year.

McDonald's Awards went to Mikayla, Lily, Karina and Arina.

Boys Basketball – Senior Teams

Senior Boys Basketball - Term 2 Gala Day Recap

This term saw our Warrigal Road Senior Boys Basketball teams hit the courts for two full days of interschool competition. The Year 6 team brought energy, effort, and heart to every game they played. They had a strong showing on Day 1, with impressive wins built on quick passing, smart defence, and a real hunger for the ball. Day 2 brought tougher opponents, but the boys held their heads high and never backed down.

Unlike some teams that rely heavily on a couple of standout players, our WRSS boys showed real team chemistry. They moved the ball selflessly, supported each other on the court, and always hustled back in defence. David C. was a force in the paint, pulling down rebounds like a magnet. Daniel H. showed incredible leadership at point guard, setting the tempo and keeping everyone calm and Sario dropped some key three-pointers under pressure. However, the defensive intensity of Hasnain, Cooper, Finn, Nathan, Samar, Jayden, Vishwa and Gursidak made life difficult for our opponents and was “Mr Gallaher’s play of the day.”

What stood out most was the sportsmanship and resilience of the group. Whether they were up by 10 or down by 5, they gave everything.

Well done to all our senior boys—your teamwork, effort, and improvement across the term were outstanding. You have done Warrigal proud!

Boys Soccer – B Teams

The boys have been working hard this semester showing up consistently on training days. With eagerness, they have enjoyed playing games and developing their skills.

The boys were ready when it came to Gala Day 2. As the day progressed, their teamwork was evident. They pushed themselves, passing the ball to their team mates and using their positions. The Juniors had 3 draws and 1 win, while the Senior Team had 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. It was exciting to see the boys enthusiasm and eagerness to play. They supported one another and it was encouraging to see them work together as a team.
