Celebrating Excellence at WRSS: A Semester of Remarkable Achievements

At WRSS, our students continue to exemplify our motto of unlocking brilliance and #excellingWRSS, showcasing their talents and dedication across various academic and extracurricular pursuits. This semester has been particularly eventful, with notable accomplishments in the Readers Cup, STEM challenges, and Choral Fanfare.

Readers Cup Triumph

Our Year 5 and 6 students demonstrated their literary prowess in the 2025 Readers Cup competition. Engaging with a diverse selection of books, they showcased exceptional comprehension and teamwork, reflecting the school's strong emphasis on reading and collaboration.

STEM Club Shines at Park Ridge High School

On June 10, thirty-one of our Year 5 and 6 STEM Club members participated in a challenging event at Park Ridge State High School. Engaging in activities that tested their problem-solving and innovative thinking, our students displayed exemplary behavior and enthusiasm, embodying the spirit of inquiry and respect. Our students were awarded the trophy as the Champion School 2025.

Choral Fanfare Accolades

Our school choir recently participated in the 2025 Choral Fanfare, a biennial festival celebrating the vocal talents of Queensland's state schools. Their performance was met with acclaim, highlighting the dedication and musical excellence fostered within our school's arts program. We were very proud to have received two platinum, one gold and a silver award.

Our Chamber Choir will perform at the REGIONAL FINAL on Monday 23 June at Redlands and we wish them all the very best!

These achievements underscore the diverse talents of our students and the supportive environment cultivated at WRSS. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants and look forward to continued success in the coming terms.

We also can't wait to share the achievments of our students at the upcoming Citizenship and Academic Awards Ceremony in week 10.

WRSS Open Day – A Day of Celebration and Discovery!

This Thursday marks a special and action-packed day at Warrigal Road State School as we throw open our gates for our 2025 Open Day! It’s an exciting opportunity for prospective families, current parents, and the wider community to see firsthand what makes WRSS a place of learning, achievement and excellence.

Explore, Enrol, and Experience WRSS

Open Day is your chance to tour our school, visit classrooms, meet our dedicated staff, and get a feel for the vibrant culture that makes WRSS such a special place. If you’re considering joining our school community, we’re thrilled to announce that out-of-catchment enrolments open from 12 June! Come and see why so many families choose WRSS as the foundation for their child’s educational journey.

A Triple Event Thursday!

It’s not just Open Day this Thursday – the school will be buzzing with energy as we also host Day 2 of the Senior Sports Day and the exciting Holt Bolt activities for Year 2! These events will showcase our students’ determination, teamwork, and school spirit, offering visitors a full and inspiring day of activities across the school.

Plan Ahead – Parking Will Be Limited

With so much happening on campus, we’re expecting a high number of visitors. Parking will be extremely limited, and we strongly recommend parking at Runcorn Plaza (on the school corner) and walking over. This will help ensure everyone can access the school safely and comfortably.

We’re so proud to open our doors and show you the heart of WRSS – our students, our staff, and our community. We can’t wait to welcome you this Thursday!

Senior Sports Day – A Celebration of Spirit, Teamwork and Talent!

There’s something truly special about Senior Sports Day at WRSS – a day filled with colour, excitement, cheers, and most of all, incredible sportsmanship. As a school leader, I absolutely love seeing the energy and pride these days bring out in our students. Whether it’s a close race or a high-flying jump, the determination and encouragement on display make me so proud of the respectful and resilient learners we’re nurturing.

Our PE Department and Sports Captains deserve huge congratulations for their seamless organisation and leadership. They work like a well-oiled machine to ensure the day runs like clockwork – from marshalling students to timing events and keeping the spirits high. It’s not just about the competition, but the opportunity to challenge ourselves, support our peers, and grow as individuals and teams.

I have the pleasure of using my trusty photo finish app at the finish line to help us make those tough calls. While we always remind our students “it’s not sheep stations,” we also know how much effort they’ve put into training and how important it is to celebrate their achievements fairly and accurately. Every sprint, throw and jump is another example of how our sports skills are improving year after year.

Thank you to all students, staff, and families who help make Senior Sports Day such a vibrant and successful tradition at WRSS. We are proud to see our values of effort, respect, and community come to life on the field.
