Music Notes

Another term has nearly concluded, and it has been very busy yet rewarding. We are continuing to receive some great feedback; constructive, positive and encouraging. We have made it to the last week of term with a few extra performances added in – please check the Date Claimers for who and what to wear. Well done everyone!

Congratulations Chamber Choir !

You were one of the most outstanding choirs at the Choral Fanfare Regional Final at Monday’s performance.

Instrumental Recruitment registration of interest letter for 2026 has been sent out from Mrs Goepel to all parents of the current grade 2 and grade 3 students.

2025 YEAR 2 STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO JOIN STRINGS  (YEAR 3 IN 2026)
2025 YEAR 3 STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO JOIN BAND       (YEAR 4 IN 2026)

Please make sure you read through this email and attachments carefully and return the requested information. There is a limited amount of numbers for strings and band available.

Just a reminder to grade 3 students who already learn strings you do not apply for the band program as you are a string player and will continue in the string program.

Week 10 Citizenship Assembly Performances:

A big thank you to the Chamber Choir, Chamber Orchestra (led by Luke S), and the Wind Ensemble for your outstanding performances at the Citizenship Assemblies this week. Your music truly brought the assemblies to life and served as a powerful reminder of the dedication, talent, and effort you put into your craft every day.

Your commitment to excellence not only enhances these events but also inspires the school community. Well done and thank you for sharing your gifts with us all!

Reading your report card

Don’t focus just on the mark you receive, which encourages a fixed mindset ("I’m an A student", "I’m a B student", etc) but rather on the comments, which help you develop a growth mindset (“What do I need to work on to improve?”). The instrumental music teachers go to much effort to give helpful feedback. In nearly every case it boils down to one or more of five things: posture, sound quality, tuning, rhythm and performing the piece musically. Even if you get an A result, there will still be things you can do to improve or maintain the grade, especially as you progress to higher levels. And if you don’t get the result you were hoping for, it is important to realise you are not stuck on that result forever.

It is important to note, also, that your mark is not just based on your playing on the day of the assessment, but your work throughout the semester. It is unlikely that a student will achieve a good mark if they do not practise regularly throughout the semester, even if they do a lot of practice just before the assessment. This is because playing an instrument requires training the brain and muscles, just as you do in learning a sport, which takes time and frequent, regular repetition to develop and refine. You also need to develop listening skills and understanding, which takes time too.

Reminder for Year 3 Singing Club Students with Speaking Parts:
- Please meet Mrs. Kelly and Miss Courtice at the Music Block each Thursday during 1st break.

- Remember to bring your scripts each week, as they are valuable tools to support your learning. Consistent attendance and preparation will help ensure everyone feels confident and ready for our big show in Term 3!

The more quickly you learn your parts, the sooner we’ll be able to perform.

All emails are to be directed to the following address.

In all emails, your child’s name and class will need to be included in the subject heading
