Thank You to Our School Community
To our wonderful Warrigal Road State School community,
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all families for your patience, understanding, and support during today’s teacher strike. Navigating a day like today requires a true team effort, and we are incredibly proud of how our school community came together.
While many of our teaching staff participated in protected industrial action—a decision that was not taken lightly and came with a great deal of personal conflict—they remained committed to the wellbeing of our students. Their dedication was evident in the careful planning and preparation that took place in the lead-up to today, helping ensure a smooth and engaging experience for those who attended school.
We welcomed 212 students on site today, and with the support of a small number of teaching staff and our incredible team of teacher aides, the day was thoughtfully structured and successfully delivered. Whether in classrooms, playgrounds, or shared spaces, students were safe, cared for, and engaged throughout the day.
A sincere thank you also goes to our staff who remained at work and to those who were on strike—your professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to students remained unwavering.
To our parents and carers, thank you again for your ongoing support and trust. It is a privilege to work in partnership with such a caring and understanding community.

Warrigal Chamber Choir makes State Finals
We are very excited about next Friday with our Chamber Choir competing in the State Finals of the 2025 Creative Generation Choral Fanfare. This is indeed a great honour and reflective of all their hard work. Next Friday will be extremely exciting and we wish them all the very best!
Long Service Leave
Next week, I’ll be taking a well-earned break in the form of Long Service Leave. But rest assured, it’s all in the name of tradition – I’ll be joining the annual pilgrimage to Fraser Island, where I’ll be chasing the elusive tailor (the fish, not someone who makes trousers… although who knows what we’ll catch out there).
In my absence, the ever-capable Mr Jeff Mitchell will be holding the fort as Acting Principal. Please go easy on him—he didn’t sign up for my fishing stories or my inbox.
But the adventure doesn’t stop there. The week after, I’ll be joining our fabulous Year 6s on their own pilgrimage—this time to the tropical wonders of Cairns. We’ll be chasing not fish, but the spoils of the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest (with a side of mozzie spray and sunscreen). Mrs Karen Coombes will take the reins as Officer in Charge while we’re away, and I’m sure she’ll do a fin-tastic job.
Thank you for your continued support—and I’ll see you in a couple of weeks, hopefully with a few tall tales, a sunburnt nose, and maybe even a fish photo or two.
Wish me luck!
