Week 3 – Let the Performances Begin!

We’re so excited to kick off our performance season this week with two fantastic events! It’s a great opportunity for our team to shine and showcase all the hard work that’s gone into rehearsals so far.

Thank you to all the parents who have already given permission and made payments via QParents — your ongoing support means the world to us.

To make these performances truly special, we need every team member there and ready to go! We’ve provided the dates early in the term to help you plan ahead and keep things running smoothly around family and other commitments.

We can’t wait to see our team in action — it’s going to be a brilliant week!

I'm currently experiencing some issues with my Outlook email program — it's behaving unpredictably and isn't handling group emails well with certain addresses. I plan to address the issue at the end of the term and will likely need to wipe the entire program and start over. Unfortunately, that means re-entering all the data, which will be quite a tedious task!

For those with students in the Instrumental and Choir programs: if you’re not receiving the weekly Music Notes, please ask your child to forward them to you, as all students receive the Music Notes each Friday as well.

Thankfully, there haven't been any issues with the EQ emails.

Ah, technology!

Junior Strings Rehearsal – Change of Day
Please note that Junior Strings rehearsal will be held on Wednesday 22nd October during first break in the Music Block. We’re looking forward to seeing you there, ready to make music!

Thank You, Concert Winds!
A huge thank you to our Concert Winds students who came prepared and looked fantastic in their performance uniforms for the P–2 Parade on Monday. You remembered your instruments and music, and your performance was a hit — the younger students loved it! What a wonderful start to your Music Fest preparation.

Concert Winds Rehearsal and Lesson Change – Week 3 Only
To help you feel even more confident for Music Fest, your usual Friday rehearsal will move to Monday 20th October at 7:30am in Modular D — just for Week 3. This extra practice will make all the difference before your big performance on Tuesday evening.

Let’s keep the great momentum going — exciting times ahead for our music groups!

2026 Chamber Choir Auditions

I am excited to announce auditions for the 2026 Chamber Choir, open to current Year 4 and Year 5 students only!

Audition Schedule:

  • Year 4: Friday 24th October
    • 11:00am – 11:40am
    • 1:30pm – 2:00pm
  • Year 5: Monday 27th October
    • 11:00am – 11:40am
    • 1:30pm – 2:00pm (Year 4 students will be on camp)
  • Additional Audition Day Year 4 and 5: Monday 3rd November
    • 11:00am – 11:40am
    • 1:30pm – 2:00pm
    • (More times may be added if demand requires)

Students can select their preferred audition time on the sign-up sheet located outside the Music Block.

What to prepare:

  • Please know the Australian National Anthem.
  • Choose to sing a song you know well — this could be a piece you’ve learnt in Junior or Senior Choir.

Places in the Chamber Choir are limited, so if you don’t make it for 2026, don’t worry! Join the Senior Choir or Boys Chorus to build your skills and experience, then audition again for the 2027 Chamber Choir.

I look forward to hearing your amazing voices!

TRY MEMORISING THE MUSIC AND WORDS:

Memorizing music effectively involves a combination of techniques. Start by breaking the piece into smaller sections, focusing on a few bars at a time and recognising the patterns and structure. Use visualization to imagine the notes on the staff and their positions on your instrument. Practice regularly, employing both aural and muscle memory—listen to recordings and play the piece repeatedly. Additionally, try to understand the structure and phrasing of the music, which can help anchor your memory. Finally, perform the piece from memory in different contexts to reinforce your retention.

MUSIC ETTIQUETTE

STAY SEATED

If you must get up, do so only during the applause or medical emergency.

LISTEN

Stay quiet and pay attention so the performers do not get distracted. Remember, performers can hear and see you, just as you can hear and see them.
